The application of Goshindo will refine your sword strike/cut plus stance, balance, timing and speed while offering each individual the opportunity to improve discipline and swordsmanship.
Goshindo translates to “way of self-preservation”. This method of practicing and training combines classical, traditional and contemporary. Goshindo consists of the following three divisions:
Kenjutsu/Combatives
Iaido
Tameshigiri
Goshindo Traditional Course
Traditional Goshindo is made for the person who wants to become more educated in the “way of the sword” while adding more enjoyment to their life by practicing the ancient art of the samurai sword whether it be bamboo, synthetic, wood or steel. Goshindo offers many areas of learning and training which are endless but nevertheless allow you to strive and attain your goals. Goshindo will enable you to advance to the next level having the knowledge of how to better control your mindset and physical being.
Your personal training will begin with either the wooden shoto (short) and/or bokutou (long) sword. Your path to sword mastery begins with executing sword techniques using pre-arranged forms. Furthermore, if desired, you can have the option of incorporating additional traditional venue by adding iaido (sword drawing), kenjutsu/kendo (sword sparring) and tameshigiri (test cutting) plus all the formalities and protocol that encompass.

Goshindo Iaido
Goshindo offers a very functional and motivating approach to the age-old art of the Japanese sword. Everything learned can and will be applied directly into practical everyday living. Practicing Goshindo offers insight on how to meld mind and body thus making you more aware of your surroundings. The art of the sword has remained elusive up to now. Only recently have the masters unveiled that mystery and with that elusiveness removed, you are now able to understand the eight basic Toyama-Iai-Batto-Do patterns without speaking Japanese. Traditional classes using the Japanese language are available for those who wish to take advantage of that extra pursuit.
Goshindo was designed for beginners and intermediate plus advanced enthusiasts. Goshindo begins with a wooden sword and advances through various stages of learning until the time wood is exchanged for steel. The usage of the steel blade will further enhance sword drawing, cutting and sheathing techniques. The earning of strong basic sword skills is a mandatory requirement to be able to advance to other systems and styles.
The student can also benefit by practicing other iaido styles which are offered by Samurai Sports. These additional styles are known and practiced throughout the world. When your education in one series is completed I am sure you will feel confident enough to proceed to your next learning experience.

Goshindo Tameshigiri
This test-cutting course is designed for those who have accomplished Goshindo Iaido and wish to advance to the next level of expertise. This course offers instruction on how to safely and correctly wield a razor sharp lethal sword as used in test cutting. You will learn test cutting patterns using various sword sizes, lengths and weights which will upon execution...give an awesome experience.
You will execute the various diagonal, horizontal and vertical cuts, including the famous ichi to roku-dan-giri and happo-giri cutting series with a Japanese steel (shinken) sword. You will also learn how to roll, tie and cure tatami mats for use in test cutting using either short (wakizashi), long (katana) or military swords (gunto).
