In addition Samurai Sports also offers Judge and Referee programs to correctly and efficiently run a tournament ring or manage chanbara combative sport padded weaponry tournaments. Chanbara tournament rules and regulations closely follow the same guidelines as many other martial art disciplines and styles. Therefore, the applicant can focus on tournament management instead of having to learn a completely new style.

Chanbara's national (USCA) and international (ISCA) rules and regulations guidelines are alike, with few exceptions. These programs are one-day judge and referee courses.

The one-day referee course offers a well-rounded approach to correctly and efficiently managing a ring. The two-day judging course is much more detailed, including information and responsibility. Both courses offer hands-on experience.

A certified judge/referee is assertive, courteous, efficient and able to manage chanbara padded weaponry tournaments. Applicants should be instructors in their own disciplines and come to the course with a working knowledge of chanbara rules and regulations. They should also possess confidence and leadership abilities, plus pass written, oral and physical examinations.

State Representative Program

The position of a chanbara state representative is very important within the USCA and ISCA organizations. State representatives manage chanbara in their state or area within a state.

State representatives must be certified chanbara instructors and referees/judges who also have a working knowledge of USCA and ISCA rules and regulations. State representatives are members of the martial arts community and usually manage martial arts studios, schools or other establishments.

State representatives practice padded weaponry sessions at least two times a week and host or sponsor 2 to 4 chanbara tournaments a year, while managing a demo team to conduct demonstrations throughout local and regional areas.

Other duties of state representatives include conducting classes, tournaments, seminars, intensive courses, managing, bestowing rank and certifying instructors.
